Koro-sensei was once the human assassin called the Reaper. He fell in love with Aguri Yukimura, the original 3-E homeroom teacher, and inherited her wish to teach. Illegal experiments transformed him into an unkillable tentacle creature, and he is the one who blew up part of the moon. His body will self-destruct within a year and could take the planet with it, so assassinating him is also the only way to save everyone. His grief over Aguri and his love for the class drive the story toward its final assassination arc.
